The Hammer SUP is the best all around SUP on the market. This innovative, game-changing board can be ridden 8″-12″ shorter and 1″-2″  narrower than most SUP’s. The unique design increases glide and stability. The copious amount of single and double concave on the bottom adds lots of lift to the nose area and tail area, reducing drag and creating the fastest, most maneuverable, “all waters” board that you will ever paddle, surf, or sail…as close to the “holy grail” of the “one design” SUP that exists to date…

Subject: 8’11” Hammer SUP

Hi, I saw one of the 8’11” Hammers for sale at my local board shop (Sandy Point Progressive Sports).
I have read the posts online about its performance, so I bought it. No Demo!
It seems to have been made very well.
Took it out this am in waist high glassy conditions.
I’m impressed! Catches waves like a 10′ board, but turns like a short board.
I had reservations about the huge tail, but somehow it works! I guess it keeps you from bogging down during cutbacks.
I rode it as a tri with cheap plastic fins. I’ll have to change that soon!
I can’t wait to get back out and try to find this SUP’s limits.

Thank you,
Marty D**** (Daytona Beach, FL.)

Our friend, Ryan, putting his new custom 120 liter 7’11” Hammer through the paces…this is a custom California built, vacuum bagged bamboo veneer ECOBOARD Project certified ripper…

At first glance, the overall outline template of the Hammer looks deceptively simple…which, BTW, is part of it’s magic mojo…;-)
Parallel rails and a wider tail improve tracking…the lowered rocker profile increases paddling speed…the wide point back volume distribution enhances primary and secondary stability…the nose is fuller…but, not so wide that it catches wind or chop like other longboard style SUPs…and, with the nose flip, concave, and the Simmons style attributes…the Hammer will never pearl on a steep wave…

Once you flip the Hammer over to inspect it’s belly…you begin to get the feeling that you may need to go brush up on your college physics…;-)
No worries…we’ve done the design and testing work…so, put your books away…;-)

The Hammer has three distinct riding sections…forward of the standing area, it’s the ultimate nose rider…utilizing a classic and proven combo of single concave in the nose area…which helps to get the water to flow down the board…the more forward you get to the nose on a wave…the faster it goes…

Transitioning to a flatter sweet spot under your feet in the standing area, the mid-section has the largest sweet spot of any SUP…in fact, the Hammer responds to rider input from the middle of the board which is a rarity on a SUP…

The deep double concave through the fin area and out of the tail, results in a fast ride and a loose feel…combined with five fin options and the optimized volume distribution in the tail ensures that it doesn’t bog down on cutbacks…it gives you extreme confidence to stand on the tail…even in a staggered surfing stance paddling position…enabling you to easily spin around to catch a wave in the surf zone…

The Hammer’s unique “Chisel Tail” maintains board speed when redirecting out of turns…not bleeding off speed will allow you to pull off more maneuvers…more easily…

We cross pollinated a WARDOG ® Jammer influenced by a mini-Simmons nose…threw in a little (Liddle) Speed Egg influence in the outline…and, added in some Bonzeresque – like channel hydrodynamics…deep concaves…increasing lift…decreasing drag…quad + 1…multiple fin optimization choices…increased the primary and secondary stability…optimized the rocker line for speed…and, developed the “Chisel Tail” for increased maneuverability…etc…and, in the process, created a board that goes faster when you stand on the nose…is more stable than boards 2″ wider…can turn off the tail like a shortboard, and, also paddles like boards 12″ longer!!!

Hammer WindSUP

Hey Wardog —

Board arrived with zero damage. You guys really know how to pack ‘em — wayyyyy better than other boards I’ve had shipped. I wrote the “concealed damage” language on the delivery doc, but I’m 99.99% sure there’s no damage.

The construction is outstanding — light and (seemingly) strong, and everything finished perfectly. Graphics are similarly perfect — great job!

Andy K***** (Manteo, NC)

2nd ride report – 6/13/15

Hey Wardog — All really good (although still no real waves): sailed it in 14-28 averaging 20 mph on flat water/chop with a super freak 6.7 overpowered lots of the time.
It planes up easily and stays upwind easily, plenty of volume and stability to tack, and has the lovely SUP quality of making it almost impossible to totally blow a jibe.

I still don’t have turning dialed — but I think it is less responsive to conventional rail pressure with toe or heel pressure (or I’m doing it wrong) but very responsive to moving your back foot to the leeward or windward rail. I haven’t dialed in keeping speed through a jibe in short-period chop, but I’m pretty sure I’ll get that figured out.

I was very pleased at how smooth it was in crappy jet-ski influenced chop. Can’t wait to sail it in bigger swell. This morning I paddled it in offshore ocean wind with almost no waves. In smooth water it paddled really well – I was able to paddle with and spin around and follow a pod of dolphins and also paddle back in easily with decent speed against the ~15mph wind.

I managed to catch 2 tiny waves and was pretty excited by how fast the board accelerated. It paddled pretty straight, too — much better than in the washing machine chop I tried it in earlier. So far, so great =— and it’s still a work of art!

Best, Andy

We just built Jim G his family’s 3rd custom Hammer…at 10’6″ x 31″ @ 165 liters…here’s his report:

Second session on the longhammer report.

So it’s off shore at San O today, and when I say off shore, it may have been easier to paddle to Catalina than to get back to your launch spot. Wife and I head down from Cucamonga with a tail wind that cut 10 mpgs off the trip. I finally meet Matt, aka Talldude while out in the line up. He’s a super nice guy. I tell my wife he’s my age… she says he looks very young… not meaning that you look old. Somehow this is meant as a complement to him and not a slander to me, but I’m not seeing it.

This board is as long as Wardog has made Hammers to date, though I’d guess he’d make them longer if someone ordered one. At 10-6, it’s pretty damn long, and that’s exactly what I wanted. In 1 to maybe 3 foot surf, with howling offshores, everyone in the line up was riding as long as they could find, knowing we’d be scrapping for every morsel of surf that we didn’t get blown out the back of. The longhammer was right at home.

I ordered it to work on cross stepping and nose riding. Both moves i had a chance to work on today. I want to surf better, I really do. I know my feet don’t always behave in a manner considered to be stylish so a big wide stable platform is a necessity. Today confirmed my faith in WD and his ability to translate desire and wants into a surfable shape. It is the epitome of a fast surfable longboard with the added bonus of Hammer speed and functional fin configurations. I pulled out the 9.75 and put in the 9″ surf fin he gave me and it was spot on. The board is just meant to be surfed as a single, and every face I found myself on testified to that fact. I had a ball today, in far less than perfect conditions. Step back to turn: Check. Step forward to nose ride or trim: check. It is all the things I loved about the Pearson Arrow Laird shape but with a more durable and light construction (in colors I picked out myself).

I don’t want anyone to read this and think my board is right for them. It takes a whole lot of demo effort and a bunch of time spent with a shaper that knows what you’re looking for. Thanks WD, You done me right.

Here are our stock sizes for Da Hammers indicated below…we have most of these in stock at our Santa Barbara store for demo…of course, if we are building you a custom, we can scale it to just about any size you want…we’ve built a 10′ x 35″ and a number of 10’3″ x 31″ and 10’3″ x 32″ models…and, we can drop a couple of sidebiter boxes if you prefer 2 + 1, or single fin option…

7’11” x 30” x 4”: 117 liters (Quad +1)
7’11” x 31” x 4.4”: 132 liters (Quad +1)
8’5” x 31” x 4.4”: 140 liters (Quad +1)
8’11” x 31” x 4.4”: 148 liters (Quad +1)
9’5” x 31” x 4.4”: 160 liters (Quad +1)

10’0” x 31” x 4.4”: 170 liters (Quad +1)

We also recently built a couple of larger Hammers for fishing and tandem paddling…
10’ x 35” x 4.75”: 205 liters (Quad +1)

10’3” x 33” x 4.6”: 194 liters (Quad +1)

The Hammer’s unique “Chisel Tail” maintains board speed when redirecting out of turns…not bleeding off speed will allow you to pull off more maneuvers…more easily…
You most definitely can learn to paddlesurf with Da Hammer…it has a very large “sweet spot” which allows for turning and trimming from the standing area…in fact, Da Hammer the most forgiving SUP that we have ever been on…stability…glide…and, maneuverability all rolled into one!!!

Relatively flat rocker profile (speed and better paddling) with just enough nose flip so that you won’t pearl…

Lots of volume in the tail, which keeps the board from bogging down in less than stellar wave conditions…

The Hammer tracks extremely well…but, it also turns easily from the mid-section…which is a hard attribute to design into a SUP…and, it also turns off the tail and really has an accelerator in the from third of the board with deep mono-concave generating lift…because of it’s stability…and, secondary stability…glide…volume distribution…etc…you can ride it around 8″ to 1 foot shorter than you normally would…which helps tremendously in maneuverability and off-water mobility…

We can safely say that there isn’t a better paddling and surfing 10’0″ on the SUP market today…the 10’0″ Hammer is that good…

We also give you lots of SUP fin options…the Hammer comes stock with 5 boxes…and, since Wardog is also a fin designer, we optimize the fin setup on every one of our client’s boards…

All of the shapes we offer are born and tested by Wardog ®  Designs, maker of our SUP SPORTS ® and HAMMER line of boards. A lifetime dedicated to surfing has been brought to this sport, and we are super stoked to offer our clients state of the art CAD computer custom-shaping technology.

We are proud to be working with master craftsmen based right here in the “805”- keeping work here whenever possible.
